Dreams of dominance drive Toyota's fuel cell tech giveaway

TOKYO -- Toyota Motor made waves earlier this month when it announced it will make its roughly 5,680 patents related to fuel cell technology available for free to other manufacturers. By taking an "open source" approach, Japan's largest carmaker hopes to speed up efforts to build the hydrogen-supply infrastructure vital for putting more fuel cell vehicles on the road.
