TOKYO -- Two of Japan's leading technical and medical schools joined forces as of October after two years of preparation, with hopes to help create new industries as a university competitive with the world's top research institutions.
The Tokyo Institute of Technology has merged with Tokyo Medical and Dental University under an agreement signed in October 2022, creating the Institute of Science Tokyo. This marks the first merger between two universities recognized by the Japanese government as being at the top level in terms of education and research standards.
