Incoming JERA Chairman Hendrik Gordenker

TOKYO -- An American attorney with extensive energy-sector experience has been named the next chairman of a joint venture between two of Japan's big regional power providers as it looks to step up efforts abroad.

Hendrik Gordenker of the White & Case law firm will take the helm at JERA on April 1, the joint venture announced Wednesday. He will replace Yoshihiro Naito, who hailed from Tokyo Electric Power Co. Meanwhile, Chubu Electric Power alumnus Yuji Kakimi will stay on as president.
