TAIPEI -- Chinese smartphone makers including Vivo and Huawei edged Apple out of the top five brands by market share in Asia's largest economy in the April-June quarter, according to data from research companies IDC and Canalys.

All top five smartphone makers are local vendors, and while the difference in market share among them was relatively small, falling to sixth place underscores the pressure Apple is facing in a market that accounts for 18% of its revenue.
