GUANGZHOU -- George Zhao, the CEO of Chinese smartphone maker Honor, has unexpectedly resigned from his position "due to personal reasons," the company said Friday.

Zhao informed Honor employees of his resignation in a post on the company's internal online forum, according to Chinese media reports. Resigning was the "most difficult" decision he has made in his life, the message reportedly said.
