TOKYO -- Canon is launching a flagship mirrorless camera this fall, following the release of similar models by Sony and Nikon, as the company looks to retain professional customers and stave off the challenges from rivals as the top camera maker.

The EOS R1's standout feature is the autofocus, which is capable of capturing facial expressions of volleyball players even when the photograph is taken through a net. The camera can keep its lock on a single target even when another person stands in front of the subject.
