KYOTO, Japan -- Omron's decision to drastically slash its workforce stems from the Japanese factory automation supplier being uniquely placed to suffer deeply from China's economic slowdown compared with competitors.

"We've become increasingly dependent on China," Omron President Junta Tsujinaga said while presenting a restructuring plan last month.
