OSAKA -- Negotiators for Japanese consumer electronics maker Funai Electric's bankruptcy proceedings have initiated talks to sell its television business to China's Skyworth Group, Nikkei has learned.

With Funai Electric's cash and deposits almost depleted, proceeds from the potential deal could be used to pay taxes and wages owed to former employees who were laid off at the start of the bankruptcy protection proceedings in October.
