China smartphone shipments up as Huawei soars 42%

Apple returns to top 5 but sees its share decline for July-September

SHENZHEN -- Smartphone shipments in China for the July-September period rose 3.2% on the year, buoyed by Huawei Technologies' stellar performance, according to data released by U.S. research firm IDC on Friday.

Total shipments for the period came to 68.8 million units, with Huawei reporting a 42% jump. Apple, which released its new artificial intelligence-capable iPhone 16 in September, saw shipments dip 0.3%.
