TOKYO -- Japan Display is looking to sell a major LCD panel plant in Japan, the company said Wednesday, as shrinking demand for smartphone displays drives a relentless consolidation of its production.

Production will end at the plant in Mobara, Chiba prefecture, by March 2026, reducing the company's manufacturing facilities in Japan to just one from a peak of six.
