TOKYO -- Japan's Meiko Electronics will build a new plant in Vietnam for 50 billion yen ($340 million) to mass-produce tiny and power-saving electronic substrates for iPhones, starting in fiscal 2026.

In the face of U.S President Donald Trump's tariff policy, Apple is advancing plans to shift the production of iPhones from China to India where a lower tariff rate is applicable, and Meiko will supply the substrates from the new plant to iPhone assembly plants in the South Asian country.
