Panasonic opens second US battery plant in state of Kansas

Opening ceremony comes after delays including over tariff uncertainty

DE SOTO, Kansas -- Panasonic opened a sprawling $4 billion U.S. battery plant on Monday amid a push by President Donald Trump to onshore manufacturing.

The factory produces lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles and is Panasonic Energy North America's second battery plant following one in Nevada. The facility, located in the small city of De Soto in the state of Kansas, has started production after months of delays.
