SEOUL -- The decision by Samsung Electronics to use OLED displays from archrival LG group in a new TV illustrates the threat posed to the South Korean technology giants by affordable Chinese players.

Samsung this month debuted the large 4K TVs, which use white organic light-emitting diode displays from LG Display. But rather than the 83-inch screen or other features, the groundbreaking aspect was the newly forged partnership.
