China drafts law on energy security, renewables amid U.S. tensions

Proposed law urges resource development to ensure steady supply in emergencies

BEIJING -- China is preparing a new energy security law to become more self-reliant, diversify imports of resources and enhance supplies of renewable energy as the country braces for continued friction with the U.S.

The draft law was discussed at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the country's legislature, that began Tuesday.
