TOKYO -- China overtook Denmark to become the world leader in wind turbine patent competitiveness in 2023, looking to further expand its 60% global market share with bigger and cheaper turbines as the U.S. and Europe move to protect their industries.
The share of wind power in the world's power source mix will expand from 7% in 2022 to 15% in 2030, according to the International Energy Agency, while power generation is projected to increase 2.5-fold to 5,229 terawatt-hours during that span. Compared to solar power plants, which cannot generate electricity at night, wind can generate power more stably throughout the day.
