TOKYO -- Power generation capacity from gas-fired plants is expected to rise by as much as 20% worldwide, with Asia driving the growth, according to data collected by Nikkei, creating a boon for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and other equipment manufacturers.

Combined gas-fired generation capacity will increase to a maximum of 2,300 gigawatts by 2030, up from the current 1,900 GW. The figures were tabulated from planned plant construction, suspensions and closures logged by Global Energy Monitor, a U.S.-based tracker.
