ISLAMABAD/NEW DELHI -- Tensions are simmering between India and Pakistan over a decades-old Indus water system treaty, after Islamabad recently rejected New Delhi's demand to review terms.

India issued a notification to Pakistan late-August that it intends to review the 64-year-old Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), but Islamabad says that contravenes the existing agreement. At the heart of the disagreement is India's planned construction of the Kishanganga and Ratle hydropower projects in its Jammu and Kashmir region, but on rivers controlled by Pakistan.
