TOKYO -- Japan is expected to no longer make reducing dependence on nuclear power "as much as possible" a goal under its updated energy plan, reflecting a renewed focus on nuclear as a tool for achieving decarbonization.

A draft of the new Strategic Energy Plan will be presented to an expert panel as early as next week. The plan will be compiled this month and replace the 2021 version.
