TOKYO -- Trading house Itochu and utility Tokyo Gas are among about 20 companies looking at joining the second round of public auctions for offshore wind power projects in Japan, Nikkei has learned.

Japan is soliciting bids for fixed-bottom offshore wind farms at four sites off the Sea of Japan coast. Their combined generation capacity is about 1.8 gigawatts, or the equivalent of two nuclear reactors.
