OSAKA -- Japanese utility Kansai Electric Power will pull out of a project to produce green hydrogen in Australia, as ballooning costs impact profitability, Nikkei has learned.

The project had aimed to start producing 70,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually in Queensland using renewable energy by 2028. Other participants include Japanese trading house Marubeni and Japanese industrial gas company Iwatani, as well as Australian energy infrastructure company Stanwell.
