HOUSTON, U.S./FUKUOKA, Japan -- Kyushu Electric Power is weighing the purchase of a 10% stake in the Lake Charles liquefied natural gas project in the U.S. state of Louisiana.
The western Japanese utility is also in discussions to buy 1.6 million tonnes of LNG annually for 20 years along with other smaller Japanese utilities. The Japanese government is considering supporting the project in an effort to reduce imports from Russia.
