TOKYO -- Japan's Taiyo Oil will spend roughly 200 billion yen ($1.3 billion) to make plant-based jet fuel in Okinawa, aiming to tap the growing demand for cleaner energy in the air transport sector.

The sustainable aviation fuel will be derived from sugarcane and corn from Brazil, the U.S. and elsewhere.
