TOKYO -- Foreign energy companies are expanding personnel and parts procurement in Japan's offshore wind power industry, potentially strengthening the local supply chain, while profitability concerns remain.
The Japanese government has completed two public tenders for large-scale offshore wind projects, selecting developers for seven sea areas with a combined capacity of 3,500 megawatts, or 3.5 gigawatts. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry aims to introduce up to 45 GW of offshore wind power by 2040.
