TOKYO -- The Japanese government aims to shorten environmental assessments for companies building offshore wind farms, Environment Minister Akihiro Nishimura said, touting their "tremendous potential" for Japan.

The government looks to introduce the new process "as soon as possible," Nishimura said during a Radio Nikkei podcast that aired Friday.
