Japanese companies to buy over 2m tonnes of LNG from Oman

Mitsui, Itochu and JERA set to close deals; others also in talks

TOKYO -- Japanese trading groups Mitsui & Co. and Itochu as well as energy company JERA are set to close deals for liquefied natural gas from Oman, purchasing a combined total of over 2 million tonnes starting in 2025, a source has said.

Oman is holding a bidding to sell 11 million tonnes of LNG, and other Japanese companies are also in talks with the country. With the government involved in the negotiations, Japan aims to win additional deals for a total of at least 3 million tonnes.
