KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian state energy group Petronas said on Thursday that its net profit for the six months through June dropped 19% from a year earlier to 32.4 billion ringgit ($7.5 billion) amid weaker gas prices.
"In the first half of this year, the global macroeconomic environment continued to be beset by intensifying challenges," CEO Tengku Muhammad Taufik told reporters after the company reported its earnings. "Political tensions, material policy changes and a fragile global economy have weighed heavily on demand and growth."
