Mitsui & Co. set to take part in $7bn LNG project in UAE

New gas field expected to produce 10 million tonnes annually

A liquefied natural gas production site in the United Arab Emierates: Japan's Mitsui & Co., along with a state-owned Emirati company and European producers will develop a new LNG project in the UAE.

HOUSTON, Texas/TOKYO -- Mitsui & Co. will participate in a $7 billion liquefied natural gas project in the United Arab Emirates, together with Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., Nikkei has learned.

The project is located in Ruwais, in the western part of the UAE, and is expected to start operating in the late 2020s to around 2030, producing about 10 million tonnes of gas annually, equivalent of 15% of Japan's yearly demand.
