Philippines' Meralco to explore small nuclear reactors with U.S. company

JAKARTA -- Major Philippine power distributor Manila Electric is teaming with U.S.-based Ultra Safe Nuclear Corp. (USNC) to explore setting up small nuclear reactors in the country as part of its shift away from fossil fuels.

The news was announced by the office of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday. USNC signed an agreement with the power company, also called Meralco, during Marcos's visit to the U.S. for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
