BANGKOK -- Thailand is emerging as a new player in the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with state-owned oil and gas group PTT having begun the country's first commercial output in January, amid rising tourism demand in the Southeast Asian country.

Adoption of SAF, made from feedstock including waste oil and biomass, is spreading across the globe, with the European Union mandating the incorporation of such fuel at the region's airports and other governments introducing similar regulations.
