KENAI, Alaska -- With the backing of U.S. President Donald Trump, hopes are rising that a long-delayed $44 billion liquefied natural gas project in the far northern state of Alaska will finally get off the ground and supply gas to Japan, though costs and other hurdles remain.
The proposed plant site sits in a remote area about 30 minutes by small plane from Alaska's largest city of Anchorage. On a recent day, the weather was sunny but cold, with temperatures well below freezing.
