BORACAY, Philippines -- Hundreds of meters from the white-sand beaches of Boracay is a nondescript room where the kind of waste that once polluted the resort island now helps stoke sustainable tourism.
Installed in this spot in the central Philippines is a technology that recycles used cooking oil -- classified as hazardous waste by the nation's environment ministry -- from tourism establishments into a diesel substitute that can be used in generators.
