Four more banks piling into Japan's first halal fund

TOKYO -- Four Japanese regional banks will join others in investing in the country's first halal fund, hoping to help their customers such as local food makers increase exports to Islamic markets as well as better accommodate Muslim visitors to Japan.

The fund was established last spring by Tokyo venture capital company Inspire and Malaysia's Permodalan Nasional. The fund works with institutions connected to the Malaysian government to help privately held companies, the typical customers of regional banks, get halal certification for their products.
