Financial giant to focus on strengths, avoid all-out battle with U.S. rivals

LONDON -- U.K.-based financial services company HSBC Holdings is forging ahead with a restructuring plan that will downsize its investment banking business in Europe and the Americas and accelerate a shift to Asia, Nikkei has learned.

An internal memo seen by Nikkei said the bank would focus on Asia and the Middle East in mergers and acquisitions and equity capital markets business.
