TOKYO -- Japanese companies are seeking to buy ever-larger foreign companies in their hunt for growth as their home market continues to shrink, according to investment bankers.

"In general, the necessity of Japanese companies going outbound has not really changed fundamentally," said Yoshinobu Agu, the head of mergers and acquisitions at Citi in Tokyo.
