TOKYO -- With Japan's seafood industry pursuing more diverse markets after being frozen out of China, recent moves toward reversing Beijing's import ban are seen pushing up the price of high-end products like sea urchin.
China was the top buyer of Japanese seafood in 2022. But it imposed a blanket ban on such shipments in August 2023 to protest the release of treated wastewater from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
