TSUKUBA, Japan -- Japanese researchers have succeeded in growing black truffles continuously at a site in Gifu prefecture, it was announced Thursday, marking a major step toward creating a reliable method for cultivating the popular delicacy.

Twelve black truffles were found at the test site in October and November, according to the state-backed Forest Research and Management Organization and the Gifu Prefectural Research Institute for Forests.
