TOKYO -- The Japanese company behind such restaurants as the Gyu-Kaku barbecue chain is looking to expand its footprint abroad fivefold, seeking to tap the growing popularity of Japanese cuisine in such countries as the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.

Colowide aims to have a total of 700 directly run locations outside Japan by March 2030, expanding far beyond its main markets of East Asia and North America.
