TOKYO -- Japan has gained its 23rd entry on UNESCO's list of important elements of global culture with the addition of traditional sake-brewing.

An intergovernmental committee of the United Nations cultural body decided Wednesday to name sake-making part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, adding to a list that also includes nogaku theater and traditional washoku cuisine.
