MANILA -- The number of Jollibee Foods' group restaurants is set to surpass 10,000 this year as the conglomerate moves to a franchising strategy in North America to speed up expansion.

At the end of last year, the Philippine restaurant group had 9,766 outlets worldwide, including those of its flagship fried chicken Jollibee chain. This year, the company will invest from 18 billion pesos to 21 billion pesos ($312 million to $364 million) for 700 to 800 new stores, which would bring its total network above 10,000 outlets.
