BENGALURU -- Japanese rice cracker maker Kameda Seika is working on a business turnaround in India, hoping that greater use of chili, garlic and other "localized" flavors will help it win over affluent consumers in the world's most populous country.

Despite its immense popularity in Japan -- Kameda Seika claims about a 35% market share in the rice cracker market -- the company got off to a slow start when it began selling its signature product in India in 2020 under a joint venture with India's LT Foods, which owns 51% of the business.
