Foreigners driving growth at railway operators in graying Japan

TOKYO -- Foreigners visiting Japan are becoming an important source of income for private railway operators facing sluggish growth in domestic passengers.

     Fourteen major private railway companies serving the greater Tokyo and Osaka areas will transport a total of 9.41 billion passengers in fiscal 2015, up 0.7% from the year before, according to tallies compiled by The Nikkei.
