Foxconn drove hard for discount on Sharp deal

TOKYO -- Contract manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry's reduced-price acquisition of Japan's Sharp comes after a month of hard bargaining and tough demands from the Taiwanese company's leadership.

     Sharp's board approved an acquisition offer from Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn, on Feb. 25. But just a day later, President Kozo Takahashi found himself at the manufacturer's mainland China headquarters in Shenzhen, apologizing to Foxconn Chairman Terry Gou.
