Germany's Continental living in traffic

Continental uses driving simulators to test products at its factory in Germany.

TOKYO -- Autoparts maker Continental is on a roll. The German company best known for its tires also makes the high-tech sensors that are bringing self-driving cars for the masses closer to reality.

Now Continental is looking to integrate the data it gathers from all those moving sensors into a single package. By leveraging its relationships with the world's big automakers, it hopes to transform itself from a supplier car "brains" into the brain of the world's road networks.
