MANILA -- Globe Telecom has teamed up with a Madrid-based mobile virtual network aggregator, or MVNA, in preparation for the Philippine company's foray into Spain.
In a stock exchange filing on Friday, Globe said its unit Globetel Internacional European Espana signed a memorandum of understanding on May 7 with Ingenium Outsourcing Services (IOS), a mobile network aggregator in Madrid.
"Globetel Espana intends to launch mobile communications services in Spain within the year, in collaboration with IOS," Globe said in the filing.
Globe plans to launch voice, text, and mobile data services that will be offered by Globetel Espana to Filipinos based in or visiting Spain. These services will be available in prepaid subscription.
Globe already has a presence in Italy, Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Singapore, Hong Kong, and Saudi Arabia, according to Globe vice-president for corporate communications Yolanda Crisanto.
Philippine telecommunications companies have been partnering with mobile network aggregators abroad to take advantage of the approximately 10.5 million Filipinos working overseas.
Globe is a joint venture between Philippines' Ayala Group and Singapore Telecommunications.
