Guangzhou Auto to build Trumpchi plant in Uighur region

The Trumpchi GS4 sport utility vehicle has become a hit among young Chinese drivers.

GUANGZHOU, China -- Guangzhou Automobile Group will set up a 1.6 billion yuan ($243 million) plant in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region dedicated to its Trumpchi brand.

The Chinese automaker announced the plans Monday. Pending approval from authorities, it will establish a new company within three months in Toutunhe District, or the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone, to proceed with construction. The factory is expected to have an annual output capacity of 100,000 units.
