Rolf Habben Jansen optimistic about freight rates after mergers

FRANKFURT, Germany -- Many maritime shippers have been hit hard by the protracted slump in recent years, but Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen recently gave The Nikkei an optimistic view on the industry's future regarding rates and excess capacity.

The head of the world's fifth-largest player also discussed the company's merger deals with the Latin American and Middle Eastern market leaders, as well as a new shipping alliance it helped create.
