TOKYO -- Olympus is aiming to transform itself from a simple endoscope maker into a diagnostic platform, using artificial intelligence to help doctors perform treatments.

The Japanese company said it will launch a pilot project in Europe this year to test a cloud-based service that connects hospital endoscopes to its cloud-based software platform. The service can be upgraded quickly and frequently in response to feedback from medical professionals.
