Honda and Yamaha call a truce in Japan to fight harder elsewhere

BANGKOK Honda Motor and archrival Yamaha Motor have declared a motorbike armistice in Japan, but the peace is only partial. The tie up will allow the two companies to shift their focus away from a shrinking domestic market and devote more resources to battling for dominance in other Asian markets.

Honda, the world's leading two-wheeler maker, will start supplying 50cc scooters for sale in Japan to Yamaha as early as 2018, according to their joint announcement on Oct. 5.
