MUMBAI -- Honda Motor said Thursday that it aims to boost its two-wheeler sales in India by 20% to 6 million units, including exports, in the current fiscal year ending March 2018.
The Japanese automaker will launch two scooter models and two motorcycle models. It also plans to increase the number of dealerships by 500, especially outside major cities, to a total of 5,800.
Honda will invest roughly 11 billion yen ($100 million) to install a fourth production line at its Karnataka factory, which began operating in 2013, adding 600,000 units to annual output. Honda's annual capacity will rise to 6.4 million units as a result.
India's two-wheeler market, including exports, is the world's largest at 19.92 million units in fiscal 2016. Honda ranks second with a market share of 25%, trailing only Hero MotoCorp.
