KUALA LUMPUR -- August is a busy month for domestic soccer around the world. The English Premier League, Spain's La Liga and Germany's Bundesliga all kicked off their new seasons in the second half of the month. And so did the Afghan Premier League.

De Spinghar Bazan and Simorgh Alborz opened the league's fifth season with a 2-2 draw on August 25, followed by first round matches over the following few days between six other professional teams. Each team represents one of eight regions of the country, although all matches are staged in Kabul for security reasons.
